I never imagined in my life that I would glimpse the northern lights in southern England! They were something that I travelled all the way to see in Iceland (mission unsuccessful!) and then again a couple of years later in Norway, where I finally caught my first sighting. These lights were more purple in colour than any that I had seen in Norway, and stunningly beautiful mixed in with the green haze. I took multiple photos, and will showcase my favourites here!

Some of the photos are a bit blurry, but for a camera phone I think this is pretty good going! If you are in a country where the northern lights may be visible (and at the right time of the year), I would advise using your phone to search for them. They may not be especially visible to the naked eye, but a modern phone’s camera should be able to show you the true spectrum of colours and allow for you to take some decent photos of your own!
Have you seen the northern lights before? Did you have to travel farther afield to see these, and if so, where did you travel to and was the journey a success?
